Reef response committee meeting for the Caribbean of Guatemala

The reef response Coordinating Committee for the Caribbean of Guatemala held a meeting on the 9th of July 2024 in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. The objective of this meeting was to strengthen the post storm reef response capacities by training new members of the Coordinating Committee and reviewing their functions and response plan, and to discuss several important topics, including upcoming training opportunities, the parametric insurance coverage for the term 2024-2025, and the reef response brigades.

A total of 13 people attended this meeting with 11 attending in person and 2 virtually. Participants of the meetings were from various governmental and non-governmental organizations such as the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Guatemala (MARN in Spanish), National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP in Spanish), the Departmental Government of Izabal, the Municipality of Puerto Barrios, the Caribbean Naval Command of Guatemala (CONACAR in Spanish), the Marine Infantry Brigade of Guatemala (BIM in Spanish), the Foundation for Ecodevelopment and Conservation (FUNDAECO), and MAR Fund.

The meeting was a resounding success, achieving its primary aim and resulting in several important agreements. The commitment and active participation of all members of the Committee are fundamental in achieving the goals of the programe. The committee will continue its work, striving to advance their initiatives and maintain the momentum gained from this productive meeting.
