The Mesoamerican Reef Restoration Network of the Mesoamerican Reef has a new Executive Committee

At the Second Biennial Meeting of the Mesoamerican Reef Restoration Network held in Belize City during the first week of October, the new Executive Committee for the 2019-2021 period was elected.

The members of the newly elected committee are:

  1. Guatemala: Ana Giró, Healthy Reef Initiative, also elected Committee Chair.
  2. Mexico: Anastazia Banaszak, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
  3. Belize: Lisa Carne, Fragments of Hope
  4. Honduras: Gabriela Ochoa, CORAL – MarAlliance, and
  5. Carlos Rodríguez. MAR Fund

Another important result of this meeting in which Claudia Ruiz, Coordinator of the Mesoamerican Reef Rescue Initiative (RRI), was the approval of the Network’s bylaws and its strategic plan.

Representatives of government, non-governmental organizations, academia, and the private sector from the four countries in the MAR region –Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras– participated in this activity.

Representatives of the IBEROSTAR Group, CCAD’s MAR2R Project, Coral Reef Consortium, and the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute, among others, also participated.
